The Director of Web Engineering reports to the VP of Engineering and manages the research and development of EdgeWave’s Web Security product.  This position is a very technical hands-on position that also includes strong leadership, organizational and communications skills. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hands-on technical contribution in the following area:
    • Hands-on development using C/C++, Python, Java, SQL in a Debian Linux environment.
    • Architectural and design supervision of all web security products, including on-prem, virtual environment, cloud based and hybrid integrations.
    • Product testing including load simulation, product functionality and bug reproductions.
    • Technical escalations – identify root cause for field failures and attempt remediation.
  • Scrum-master for web security product development, maximizing velocity and quality with an offshore team of developers and QA engineers.
  • Recruit, manage and retain the necessary resources to successfully perform the duties for the Engineering group. Provide day-to-day management of Web Engineering department, including developing and administering policies, business processes and quality standards, and developing and managing a department budget. Ensure that deliverables are on time, within budget, and meet the quality levels expected by EdgeWave’s internal and external customers.
  • Plans and directs the work of the highly skilled engineering staff, placing particular emphasis on research and development to achieve product engineering objectives.
  • Confers with marketing department to consider market potential for new products.
  • Develops new products from the beginning concept to testing and full production.
  • Recruit, manage and retain the necessary resources to successfully perform the duties for the Web Engineering team. Provide day-to-day management of department, including developing and administering policies, business processes and quality standards, and developing and managing a department budget. Ensure that deliverables are on time, within budget, and meet the quality levels expected by EdgeWave’s internal and external customers.
  • Monitors progress of projects, confers with project engineers, and reviews reports to see that development is progressing according to schedule and within budgetary guidelines.
  • Other duties as required


Requirements and Experience                                                

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required; master's degree in engineering or business administration preferred.
  • 10 years hands-on Linux development including coding, testing and debugging.
  • Deep knowledge of TCP/IP and HTTP/Web protocols, both application and wire perspectives.
  • Agile/Scrum development methodology
  • Five years' experience in increasingly complex supervisory positions.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Excellent technical, conceptual, and financial skills.
  • Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals
